Spoon River - a Lakeside Concert

Carsten Pieper A must-have for fans of Dutch pop gods Nits! Swiss composer-pianist Simon Ho's "supergroup" includes members of his "usual" band, an re-incarnation of the Alankomaat/Wool-Nits (late 90s) and the voices of Finnish folk heroines Värttina. Very rich music, in terms of style (pop, chanson, folk, classical, jazz) as well as mood (ranging from the hauntingly beautiful "Roses", sung by regular Ho-vocalist Shirley Grimes to the cheerful chicken chase of "Senor Fuego"). Favorite track: Senor Fuego.

tjch A superb cocktail of music performed by a great ensemble of wonderful artists. Sometimes dark and haunting, sometimes ironic, the songs manage to give us a glimpse of the too human inhabitants of Spoon River. Favorite track: Roses.
